Just sitting there, in its box.
It awaits liberation.
I look away.
Like a bowsprit figurehead, it beckons my attention.
Like the Siren that beckons the sailor.
It's too messy in here. I'm such a slob.
It's a conspiracy, no room, junk all over.
It deserves better than this.
I'll have to tidy up.
Maybe tomorrow. It's too hot today.

Visit Magpie Tales for more of this week's prompt.
Lol, if a statue were going to taunt me for never cleaning up, I would have to let her go.
ReplyDeleteI like your take on Willow's prompt ... how many times have I said those same words? "too hot today"
ReplyDeletesteviewren: Yeah, I should get off my lazy butt and tidy up. Thanks for dropping in.
ReplyDeleteHelen: Thanks! It's getting hotter every day. We have no A/C and I can only work in 10-min. spurts before sweat blinds me.
Nice poem.
ReplyDeleteI can totally relate to the cleaning conspiracy theory.
It gets me every time.
I need to hire a maid.
hee hee
Hey Quirks: Thanks. Yep, I'll use any excuse when I can. heh heh
ReplyDeletei better clean up before the statue comes to haunt me too...nice magpie!
ReplyDeleteHi Brian! New excuse: I've got to answer all these comments, so now I don't have the time to tidy up. Thanks and thanks!
ReplyDeleteooooo we've all been here in a messy room looking for any excuse...let me help hahahah!
ReplyDeleteGreat Magpie!

ReplyDeleteKathe: Yes, procrastination is my profession. Thanks for helping out. heh heh. And thanks for thinking it was great - I, too, had nothing to write up until yesterday.
ReplyDeleteVery well done indeed, and a message to us all on letting things sit, they taunt us, remind us of our shortcomings ----bkm
ReplyDeleteyou've almost persuaded me to pick up a broom..I hope I get over it.
ReplyDeleteyou've almost persuaded me to pick up a broom..I hope I get over it.
ReplyDeleteI've wondered why more of us didn't make the connection between the bust and the ship figurehead. Great poem. Guess I'd have to move her out as well, cleaning is just too much work!
ReplyDeleteI have to say, this is my favorite Magpie this week! My life is a bit messy, like the narrator's, and I can always put things off.
ReplyDeleteYou made procrastination a beautiful thing. LOL
bkm: Thanks, and thanks for the drive-by.
ReplyDeletesoundoffreedom: (*hiccup*) Maybe you shouldn't pick up that broom just yet!
ReplyDelete;-)No worries! Thanks for dropping in!
CHK a/k/a CHW: I haven't gone through most of the Magpie list, but I figured someone out there may have used a similar association. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteBrenda: Thanks! And I'm always happy to accomodate!
ReplyDeleteSo stuff a sock in the Siren's mouth if she's nagging, close the box, pile some stuff on it, and go sit on the porch with something cool to drink.
ReplyDeleteFun magpie!
Vicki: Hahahaha - good idea, but I have no socks handy - oh, wait! I take that back! Wanna join me on the porch??
ReplyDelete;-)
I totally agree with Vicki!!
ReplyDeletewillow: you are welcome to join us! A beer, mead or maybe a nice merlot? ;-)
ReplyDeleteShe does deserve the best..now pick up those socks!!
ReplyDeleteVery clever..thanks!!
Vicky nailed it! Merlot please and it's harder for us lip readers, so throw a towel over the nagging bitch!
ReplyDeleteLaughing. This is truly clever!
ReplyDeleteLyn: I'll be getting to it sooner or later.;-)
ReplyDeleteStafford: I used a t-shirt. Here's your merlot. Cheers!
Tumblewords: Thank you!
As stated in my profile, I am an occupational house-work dodget, too! lol. But I may manage it a little quicker with our prompt baiting for freedom!
ReplyDeleteHi Lena! Thanks for popping by. Yes, I'll have to release her soon!
ReplyDeleteIf that bust does housework, let me know! Oh, and nice verse.
ReplyDeletedufus: I wish it would too! The "it" I refer to is something else (apparently I did not make that clear enough in my prose) and it's not my other "IT" - gorsh, now I'm confusing myself again.
ReplyDeleteThanks, though. The verse was right off-the-cuff.
;-)
When it comes to chores, it's always too hot today as far as I'm concerned. I need a butler. Or a maid. Or both.
ReplyDeleteBonyMike: My problem is that there is way too much stuff around and no where to put it.
ReplyDeletemagical and fine tuned tale!
ReplyDeletelove the tale, but would send the bitch to a watery grave if she wanted me to clean up.
ReplyDeleteJingle: Oops - I missed your comment. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteLinda: Heh, heh. Since I posted this Magpie, I now have MORE mess beside my chair. Oy!
