I've been busy lately with visitors from Germany, hence my lack of posts and sporadic commenting. That, and I've been busy trying to
At any rate, just letting you know I haven't died, but I am old enough to remember Carol Burnett. So, in lieu of a regular post, I offer you some great old comedy with this outtake from her variety show.
Oh, and Happy New Year everyone! (Yeah, I'm late as usual.)
Enjoy the Deutschlanders' visit!
ReplyDeleteCheryl: Even though one of them speaks fairly good English, much still gets lost in translation which makes it funny at times. At least they will have fellow countrymen visiting while they are here (they arrived today, I think). They are, though, fun company. Quasi family. Oy!
ReplyDeleteThe clip was hilarious!
ReplyDeleteGuten Luck vit der Deutschlanders.
My Big Brother and his wife were German. Or rather, "are" German. And you're right about the whole cleanliness bit; their house and surroundings were spotless. When their three-year-old got mad at them one time the worst threat he could think of was to say, "I'm going to go into the living room and mess up the books!".
ReplyDeleteThe father was an engineer and introduced me to my first slide rule. very meticulous, but a lot of fun -- and a great slot-car race set in his basement. It made Christmass even better, too, since they opened presents on Christmas Eve, and then I'd go home and open more presents on Christmas Day.
Enjoy the Germans, and ask them if they know BocyMike. But, you know ... don't piss them off.
That would be "BonyMike." Not "Bocy." "Bony."
ReplyDeleteReffie: I loved that show, mostly because it was hilarious to watch the actors trying not to bust out laughing at each other.
ReplyDeleteVielen Dank - ich denke, ich werde es brauchen.
;-)
Frank: If your older brother is German, aren't you as well??
ReplyDeleteHa! I can just see a little German child - having been brought up so 'cleanly' - not wanting to mess anything up too badly in protest. What did he do? De-alphabetize the books?
You know, I had to look up slot-car. All of the ones I ever played with never worked properly for some reason - I think it was the destructive nature of my cousins (I preferred Hot Wheels anyway).
I never thought to ask my friends about BonyMike, but I will. Of course I will have to remember his real name instead of BonyMike or, worse, BocyMike. Meh - no worries, you're allowed typos in the blogosphere.
;-)
I liked hot wheels too. Back in the day when it was ok to spank someone elses kids, the neighbor lady used to spank us with the hot wheels track. To this day those little orange bastards make me cringe a little.
ReplyDeleteMadge: Yes, I've heard of the Hot Wheel Track corporal punishment being inflicted upon others that are roughly our ages. Thankfully, I only got the occasional slap on the butt, but when my grandfather went for his belt buckle, we'd all scatter like cockroaches (and hid well, too!).
ReplyDelete;-)
Happy Belated New Year to you too! Enjoy your visit with the Germans.
ReplyDeletemeleah: Thanks! As for the Germans, I've got another month yet - shouldn't be so bad (hopefully I can avoid having them over to my place - I'm such a slob!).
ReplyDelete;-)
Keep those damn Krauts out of your nicely messy place. They eat funny things and talk too loud. I always loved Carol Burnett. She's great!
ReplyDeleteJust watched the Carol Burnett outtake. My stomach is cramped from laughing so hard. I loved that show. Wouldn't it be great if they brought it back, even just for a special.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, thank you for the laugh, I really needed that.

ReplyDeleteSandra: It was agreat show and I would definitely watch the reruns. Tim Conway always tried to crack up the other actors, particularly Harvey Korman.
ReplyDeleteLinda: These visitors are NOT of the Bavarian variety and are actually quite nice.
ReplyDelete;-)
But, it still may take me three weeks to clean up enough that I won't be embarrassed to have them as guests for dinner.
I have a very hard time imagining Germans on the island, especially dealing with the "When I Reach" part of it. Good to you, and I hope they don't lose it.
ReplyDeleteBonyMike: There are many Germans here, most just visit seasonally, but there are also quite a few residents as well. I imagine some do find the the "reaching" part a bit annoying at times.
ReplyDeleteWhich reminds me, I promised to bake an apple pie for them last week. I guess I better hop to it!
