Decompressing

After screwing around part of the day trying to get the DVR to project louder audio (my moms is getting hard of hearing, whereas I can hear a spider fart in the next room), I was almost tempted to fire both components out into our still empty pool and be done with them. Of course I could not - I'm addicted to television.

So, I instead ran out to grab the newspapers and a few groceries but in my head I was still trying to figure out the problem with the A/V units. It was like a insane ear worm: one input only to the wireless speakers; two outputs from the components; split the cable input signal for recording separately from watching the television; combine and re-split the audio to the wireless speakers. (Do I really need to do this? Damn instruction manual - written in Japanese, translated into English by Italians (I'm guessing here) - which friggin' hole do I put the cable into? Where is the friggin' hole anyway? They really should put some hair around it.)

Well, you get the gist.

I return from shopping, etc. Feed the "zoo" it's dinner. Make me moms a drink. Have a smoke and another crantini. Get dinner started. Check my e-mail. Then I thought that I should do a post to get my mind off today's tribulations. I was going to compose something different altogether but wound up venting about my day's frustrations.

But, you know what? It worked! I'm calmer and more relaxed now and probably - or most definitely - about three sheets to the wind.

  1. "Three sheets to the wind" is pretty much how I tackle any challenge involving technology, as well. Good luck with yours.

  2. Jayne: Thanks, I'll need it. Maybe tomorrow I can remember which RCA cable goes where. But I'm sure the manual is wrong, oh so wrong, in so many ways. It just doesn't make sense. I was good with VCR's. I could even set the time AND date on those suckers!

  3. Only three sheets? Are you sure?

    Kidding. Kidding.

Good Luck with the cables. Don't let them get to you, first!

  4. As much as I love DVRs and hate commercials, all those inputs and outputs drive me insane. Better luck today, m'kay?

  5. Reffie: Well, maybe three and a half.
    ;-)

Yep, I'm going to try it again today. Thanks!

  6. Cheryl: I used to be pretty good at this, but I think whoever wrote the manual for this DVR was totally out to lunch.

  7. Ahahahahhaha! Yep, I won't even attempt to tackle any task technology related without drinking alcohol!

  8. I hate cables. Whever there's a cable emergency in our apartment, it's M's job to take care of it. I mostly just sit around and look pretty.

  9. meleah: We woke up with no power this morning. Then our generator ran out of fuel. It was practically 2pm before we got the generator running again (although the power had since returned, but there might be more outages before the day is finished so the generator was a priority), and it was also too late in the day to start screwing with cables.

Just shoot me now. Better yet, just mix me a drink!

  10. Ziva: I'm sure you always look pretty just sitting around - more so now with that nice rock on your finger (hey - when do we get to see it??).

Today was a wite-off. It'll be better to deal with it tomorrow when the stores are open in case I need new cables or, possibly, an entirely new entertainment system (that pool will be looking good if I don't get this fixed).

  11. When all else fails, drink crantini's. I'm with you on this one Double O. I see you've gotten a visit from the charming Rambo. I admire your restraint in just removing him. And your site looks awesome I must add.

  12. Linda: Yes, crantinis surely help! Ha!

I thought that just deleting "Rambo's" comment that it would disappear it from my post. Now he's gone for good.

  13. Linda: Forgot to thank you about the new look of my site, so, Thank You!!

(It's Monday - I don't function well on these days.)

  14. Baby, I don't function well at all so look on the bright side. With you it's only Mondays. Yup! This place looks slammin'!

  15. Whenever I've been three sheets to the wind, things always sounded so much louder than normal - that spider farting in the other room would have blown my ears out like a sonic boom.
Glad to hear that a little blog venting put you in a more mellow mood. That's what we're here for! - G

  16. GD: I've always had very good hearing and *knocks on wood* hopefully it won't diminish with age, unlike my eyesight.

The job at hand is in a difficult location and the surrounding area is full of office stuff, among other things, so manoevering was almost slapstick. The frustrating part - and because I have a very short fuse when annoyed - is that three of the cables are all the same colour (3x3 RCA patchcords) and there are twice as many holes to put them into! And I appreciate you are all willing to listen to my rants - if I didn't, I might have fired myself right into the canal. Thanks!

  17. I can taste the alcohol in your writing. Tastes good.

P.S. -- Captcha word: Eashi. Hah!

  19. I find that alcohol makes most things easier. Though it was not the original reason I have found that having a son is great for technological things. The last time I did anything techy was when I set the clock on the VCR 15 years ago.
My Captcha is Untight which is very funny for some reason.

  20. Jen: I know what you mean about the alcohol, but mostly the techy son - I've relied upon my much younger cousins on many an occasion. I used to be good at most things but since the technology and Internet have 'exploded', so to speak, I haven't a clue either.

"Untight"? Ha, ha! Does that mean you are a loose woman? (kidding, of course.)
